ECN relies on sophisticated technology which is known as Financial Information Exchange Protocol. In practice, this works by linking the two ends of a transaction. On the one hand, clients are given access to liquidity as this is obtained by the broker from liquidity providers, while on the other end the broker sends to the liquidity provider the trading orders of its clients for execution.
